Do you still smoke during Rotary gathering? With some degree of hesitation, we are giving way to a Rotarian's plea to call your attention to Sec. 2,040, Art. II of the RI By-laws: "In recognition of the deleterious effect upon personal health, individual members and their guests are encouraged to REFRAIN FROM SMOKING during meetings and OTHER EVENTS organized in the name of RI."

Quit aside from the "new rule" .may be we should also consider the discomfort we cause others when we smoke in their presence, specially in an enclosed or air-conditioned room. it's truly the height of discourtesy! We personally stopped smoking more than forty years ago - even before the cancer scare - only to prove that we could. Looking back we can now see how inconsiderate we were to other people! There are some smokers who would claim that the prohibition against smoking is curtailment of their right. and we say: Your right to swing your arm ends where the nose of your neighbor begins! Think about it.

We are the first to admit that it's not easy to stop smoking.when one is already addicted. The best time to stop is really before one is hooked on the habit. Let's try this one: September is New Generations Month in Rotary - focused on the youth and the slogan is "Every Rotarian, an example to the youth." If that is not motivation enough. we don't know what is!

We attended the Charter Presentation of the new Rotary Club of Makati Poblacion, and they turned over the check for Sixty Thousand pesos for 12 Lifetime Subscriptions, with a promise of more coming! This is by far the biggest harvest from a new club, and they may yet become the 2 nd club to have 100% Lifetime Subscriptions. DGR-PRM T.R. was there.but we have to recognize that much of the work of these recruits was done by 3790's DGR-PRM (Mong Cañizares), who is the spouse of the club's V.P. and President-elect. Not to be outdone, we spoke before the Rotary Club of Dagupan East.and, at the end of my talk, PP Mac Samson raised 18 pledges for Lifetime Subscriptions (Four instantly paid).

PDG Mo Libunao of 3780 invited us to his induction as Chairman of their Council of Governors where it was announced that he was adopted member of the 3790 Council of Governors, as he is the Mayor of San Fabian, Pangasinan. He started to work in out district last week as a resource speaker during our Membership Development & Retention Seminar in Balanga City in Bataan . His spouse, Irene, is the incumbent president of the Rotary Club of San Fabian.

Was it so long ago that we even forgot to remember? Yes.it was eight years ago when we took over as Editor-Chief of the PRM! With justifiable pride, we can claim to have come a long way.with the unrestricted help of our Team: PDS Rudy Alonzo, PDG Sonny Ventura, PP Ed Trinidad and PDG Johnny Aruego.then came PDGs Lina Aurelio, Felix Domigpe, Boy Valle, and Lindy Garcia.then PVP Bob Autor and PDGs Rody Zamora and Oca Inocentes. Behind the scene, but working just as hard (perhaps harder!) is Reb Trinidad. We truly worked as a team then.and even more so now. All we ask in return is more tangible support from the Rotarians - subscribe to PRM! Better yet .show your faith in the "staying power" of PRM - be a Lifetime Subscriber! Is that asking too much?
