A Focus on the Club's Two Past District Governors by VP Joey Crisol

Talk about the Rotary Club of Diliman (RC Diliman) and almost invariably, the topic shifts to the club's two most prominent and well-known members. The two have been Diliman Rotarians ever since one can remember and have truly been, for countless years, the club's pillar and prime movers, so much so that they have been elevated to RC Diliman's Hall of Fame (had they not been, then for sure, they would be the run-away winners of the club's most outstanding Rotarian award, year after year).

The two eminent members earned their well-deserved status and sterling reputation through their utmost adherence and deep devotion to the ideals and workings of Rotary. They have been, In every sense of the word, fully "Rotarized" and consequently, a great part of their lives has been and continues to be unselfishly dedicated to the world of Rotary. But what is more striking is that in spite of (or should we say due to) their very heavy involvement in Rotary activities, they remain devout, loving family men and have chalked up extensive and impressive successes in their respective professional fields, enviably making them the epitome of superb balance and efficient time management.

As such, the two are much sought after resource persons and speakers in and out of Rotary. In the club level, their wealth of experience is a constant source of inspiration and guidance for other members. Notwithstanding their stature, Diliman Rotarians are very much comfortable in approaching them for consultation or opinions, and even in assigning them to what others in the same lofty position might consider mundane or irrelevant tasks and assignments. Their feet are firmly planted on the ground even if their accomplishments reach the highest highs. They are akin to affable older brothers, always there when you need them. On the district or even international levels, they bring with them the same level of expertise with humility, generosity with sincerity, and achievements with magnanimity.

The two jewels of Diliman referred to above are of course, no other than PDG MELITO "Bimbo" SALAZAR, JR. and PDG NEMESIO "Nemie" PERALTA, SR.

PDG Bimbo was RI District 3780 Governor during Rotary year 1992-1993. He is at present a Monetary Boar Member of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. This Rotary year, PDG Bimbo is the club's Rotary Foundation Director and since last year, the Chairman of the Rotary Golfi ng Fellowship Foundation of the Philippines. His recent Rotary International involvement are, among others, as follows: Chairman, National Polio Eradication Fund Raising Committee RY 2003-2005; Assistant Coordinator, PolioPlus Partners Task Force for Zone 7 RY 2003-2005; Member, 2004 Osaka Convention Committee RY 2003-2004; Vice-Chairman, Extension to South and Southeast Asia Committee RY 2003-2004; Chairman, National Polio Eradication Fund Raising Committee RY 2002-2003; Promotions Coordinator, Zone 7 & 8, Rotary International Brisbane 2003 Convention; Deputy Sergeant-At-Arms, Rotary International Brisbane 2003 Convention; Member, Rotary International Osaka Convention 2004; and Chairman, Extension to Non-Rotary Countries (Vietnam) for RY 2002-2003. He served as Chairman of the Philippine College of Rotary Governors in Rotary year 1993-94.

PDG Nemie, on the other hand, served as RI District 3780 Governor during Rotary year 1998-1999. PDG Nemie is presently the club's International service Director and serves at the district level as Secretary of District 3780's Council of Governors, Vocational Service Adviser, and D-3780 Representative to the Philippine College of Governors. Professionally, he is Chairman of Global Exponents Corporation, a family corporation he set up with branches in major cities in the Philippines, in Hong Kong, in California, and in the Virgin Islands. He has previously served the district in various capacities such as being the Rotaract Chairman, District Governor's Special Representative, and as DGGR. He was also a member of different district committees such as the Membership Development Committee, Literacy Promotion Committee, and the Search for Outstanding Governor. Last year, he was the chairman of the Council of Governors.

PDG Nemie is a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow while PDG Bimbo is a Major TRF Donor - great Rotarians always ready and willing to lend a hand to those who need a helping hand.
