This issue is sponsored by RI District 3820. We can not thank the district and Gov. Henry Buban enough for their show of support and concern...

The wonders of science never fails to amaze us. We were the special guest of the Rotary Club of Mabalacat when they had a joint meeting with a Rotary club in Australia through the internet. It was truly a wonderful experience... considering that when we were district governor (21 years ago), we were still using typewriters to communicate! Many thanks to the “conjugal leadership” (Pres. Glo and PP Ron Nethercutt) for their kind invitation.

The “Rotarian” who owns Celfone No. 09182254232 must have been really HUNGRY to be so ANGRY. He sent us a series of indignant text messages, but he would not give us his name. To him, we say: we respect your right to air your grievances... but we would respect you more if you had the moral courage to identify yourself. We can also apologize (as you demanded) for the unfortunate incident, but you could be more civil in your use of words. Please do not abuse the Four Way Test... unless you can understand that there are FOUR tests in there. It is never enough that your gripe is true... it must also be fair... it must bring goodwill and better friendships... and it must be beneficial to all concerned. We accept your dare to publish your complaint, if you write it... but we reserve the right to edit the same, if only to remove foul language not fit for Rotarians!

Thanks mainly to the relentless efforts of PDG Boy Valle, District 3770 has finally overtaken 3790 in the number of Lifetime Subscribers! But CP Mong Canizares (DGR-PRM of 3790) is not giving up that easily. She vows to re-take the lead before the end of the Rotary Year. On the other developments... DG Romy Millan (3870) is still hot in the pursuit of his 100% commitment for all clubs of the district subscribing to PRM. By the way, DG Romy presides over the most precarious district in the country... and he has been lucky, until recently, when he met a disastrous vehicular accident. His car is a total wreck, but Romy survived and is now doing well. Thank God!

Just when we are beginning to enjoy our little successes... we get this “dampener” from one who has “editorial experience” telling us we are doing it all wrong! Just when we are elated by praises from no less than RI Director John Thorne and other foreign delegates to the Presidential Celebration... someone discourses on the need to improve the magazine because it is “ugly.” We fully agree that the biggest room in the world is the “room for improvement” and PRM has its share of such need. We know our limitations – mostly arising out of inexperience and never lack of effort - and having given our best, maybe the solution is for us to step aside and let others do better.

At the rate our economy is going... it is becoming more inevitable that we shall have to adjust our prices. The last time we did this was about five years ago. Comparatively, we are still cheaper at P40.00 per issue (The Rotarian is $1.00 or over P55.00 per copy). We have always viewed the PRM as service to Rotary – NOT a business project – which is why profit is not our main concern... but we can not continue to serve if we incur losses along the way. We can only assure that we shall try hard to keep the costs as far down as we can... and for as long!

Personal congratulations to PP Ed Tumangan (RC Manila), now DGN for District 3810, a friend of long standing. He and DG Guiller can now be counted among the few brothers to serve as district governors. We know of only two other sets: PDGs Jun and Boy Aniag (3770) and PDGs Leonie and Tony Garcia. We also have a father and son team (the late PDGs Joe and Pepot Barredo), and a new husband and wife tandem (PDG Chick Garcia and DGE Nanette).
