The “Alay ng Rotary sa Araw ng Kabataan”, a district signature project held in honor of the youth in Quezon City, once again took center stage in RI District 3780 under the stewardship of DG Roberto “Bobby” Viray last 27 September 2003 at the Amoranto Sports Complex along Roces Ave., Quezon City. It is now on its 10th anniversary since its inception in RY 1994-95 during the term of PP Francisco “Toto” Sarabia of the Rotary Club of Kamuning (RoCK).

How it started

Let us leaf back the pages of history. Then Pres. “Toto”, with the able assistance of his Secretary Glenn Estacio and Youth Director Bing Solis, conceptualized a project for the youth which would involve the participation of the public elementary and high schools in Quezon City, the city government, the Division of City Schools and many of the Rotary clubs of D-3780. It was envisioned as a high-profile signature project, the thrust of then DG Oscar “Oca” Inocentes. It would comprise educational, cultural and sports competitions among the youth. It had two (2) objectives: (1) to give the students a well-deserved respite from the rigors of academics, and (2) to develop their sense of good citizenship, leadership, teamwork, fair play and competitiveness while instilling in them the meaning of value formation, family ties and the desire to fight against the evils of drug and alcohol abuse.

It was presented to then District Chairman for New Generations PP “Boy” Mendoza who, after carefully scanning the study and getting the assurance of Pres. “Toto” to its feasibility, endorsed it to DG “Oca” Inocentes. It was approved outright because of the high impact it was expected to create in the community.
